HOST

Austin,Texas Raised

Joshua Hunt aka J. Hunt a Mix & Club DJ, Air Personality, Sound Engineer, Producer, Co-host & much more!! J. Hunt started DJing @ the age of 15. Inspired by his older brother who also was a DJ. J continued to practice on his DJ craft, which led him to become a member of the Teen Scene, a teen program at 88.7FM KAZI radio station. He stayed on the program for 4 years as he honed his skills as a DJ and as an on-air personality. After the teen program was completed the KAZI’s program director moved J to a daytime programming slot where he filled in available air shifts throughout the week!! As J continued to grow with KAZI, he soon was given his own time slot on Friday nights from 9pm-12am! Not too long after, J was introduced to Steve Galindo aka DJ Southpaw. Inviting him to guest DJ on his show, from that point DJ Southpaw became regular on J's show creating a dynamic duo! J & Southpaw became "The Bad Boys Of ATX". The duo had the most popular and best mix show on KAZI through the 1990s & went on to DJ multiple club venues in Austin’s growing music and party scene. Catfish Station, Midtown Live, Club Serendipity, Club Empire and many more were the cornerstone of J’s popularity. Catching the eyes of many fraternities and sororities at the University of Texas and Huston-Tillotson University, J & Southpaw were well known for doing standing-room only events!! In 1995, J was introduced to some representatives of Austin’s Planned Parenthood and they hired J to engineer their teen program “Wrap It Up” that was scheduled to air on KAZI. Dennis ‘Tha Genius’ Johnson was one of the co-hosts of Wrap It Up and a DJ on KAZI and known for promoting local artists on his show, "A-Town Spotlight". J & Genius became close friends working on the "Wrap It Up" show. The show would end its run in 1998. Soon after J got married in 1999, moving him to California. J continued to DJ while in California landing a gig in Tijuana, Mexico and became the DJ at Club 69, playing Hip-Hop & R & B music. While in California, J connected with a mobile DJ service who hired him for gigs on weekends and some weekdays. After divorcing in 2006, J decided to move back to Austin reuniting with KAZI. J was doing alternate Fridays 9pm-12am. Consistency and dedication paid off and J was back on the air every Friday 9pm-12am. J’s new show concept, T.G.I.F. "Thank Goodness It’s Funky" brought back the high energy mixing he was known for. In 2011 J & Genius rejoined as a team to discuss creating a show on KAZI to support local artists. J’s mixing and engineering abilities and ‘Tha Genius’ promoting skills created a show that not only supported the local artists but expanded to include indie artists from around the world that weren’t able to get extended radio play. On May 2011 the "UnTapped" show was born and is still rollin!! Giving unsigned, unheard, untapped artists the exposure they need to be successful. J. Hunt is an innovator, entrepreneur and supporter of artist and music on many levels!
